Bojangles' Continues Support of Muscular Dystrophy Association Summer Camp

Charlotte, N.C. - Aug. 5, 2013—For the 15th consecutive year, Bojangles’ is not only raising funds to send children to the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s (MDA) Camp Bethelwoods, but is also providing its world-famous chicken and fixin’s for more than 200 campers, volunteers and guests.

Camp Bethelwoods, located at 922 W. Mount Gallant Road in York, S.C., provides a magical environment for 6 to 17-year-olds who are affected with a variety of neuromuscular diseases.  An MDA sponsor for more than a decade, Bojangles’ will serve lunch during the camp’s “VIP Day” on Wednesday, Aug. 7.  VIP Day provides local MDA sponsors and supporters an opportunity to meet campers and volunteers over lunch.  This year the Bojangles’ Mobile Kitchen will serve Bojangles’ Chicken Supremes™, Homestyle Tenders ™, Cajun filet sandwiches, mac n’ cheese and Legendary Iced Tea®.  Additionally, each camper will receive a Bojangles’ “It’s Bo Time” t-shirt to commemorate the day.

“Meeting the incredibly strong children who attend MDA Camp and their families is an inspiring experience for our Bojangles’ team,” said Bojangles’ President and CEO Randy Kibler.  “After 15 years of our partnership with MDA, we have learned that these campers have a big appetite for fun, but an even bigger appetite for Bojangles’ chicken ‘n biscuits.  We feel privileged to be part of an already wonderful time at Camp Bethelwoods and all the other MDA camps that our franchisees support.”

Each March Bojangles’ raises funds through its in-store Shamrocks Against Dystrophy campaign to send children to MDA Summer Camp, providing campers with the opportunity to develop life-long friendships, try new activities, share interests and build self-confidence.  With the support of Bojangles’ generous customers, more than $446,000 was raised this year alone to send over 550 children to MDA Summer Camp.  Over the past decade the company has raised more than $3 million.  By the end of the summer, Bojangles’ and its franchise partners will have fed more than 700 campers and volunteers at four different MDA camps throughout its footprint with support from ROBO, LLC based in Roanoke, Va., A&D of Greensborough Inc. in Stokesdale, N.C., and BOJ of Western N.C., LLC in Arden, N.C.

“MDA recognizes Bojangles’ passion for our cause and we’re deeply appreciative of their continued commitment and significant contributions over the past 15 years of our partnership,” said MDA Divisional Director Theresa Miller.  “It is because of the generosity of sponsors like Bojangles’ that we are able to bring so many young people affected by neuromuscular diseases together for a memorable and uplifting experience at MDA Camp.”

Proceeds donated to MDA from Bojangles’ fundraising efforts have aided in breakthrough research for Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy and other neuromuscular diseases, and enabled MDA to provide numerous services at no cost to those registered with the organization – including medical visits, repairs for wheelchairs and leg braces, support groups and vaccines.
